For Steven Spielberg, whose last four films (Minority Report, A.I., Saving Private Ryan, Amistad) were dark, serious affairs,
Catch Me If You Can is like a reprieve to take a break and simply enjoy directing a breezy, fun picture. It's obvious,
too, when viewing the film that he loves every relaxed minute of it, from the period detail to the light-hearted humor that
springs forth in many scenes. The film is a comedy/drama, set in the 1960s when people were more naive than today,
still recovering from the relative innocence of the 1950s. It's based on a true story about a con artist, Frank Abagnale Jr.,
who became one of the FBI's most wanted before the age of 19. Spielberg's innate ability to craft such material on-screen
makes Catch Me If You Can one of the year's most enjoyable pictures.
