It's not often that I come across a film like this - only a few can match the level of sheer stupidity and outright disgust that I felt toward this movie.
Jeepers Creepers has touched all the bases when it comes to making a terrible film - a bad story, poor directing,
poor acting, and most of all, no redeeming value whatsoever in any aspect of the film. Jeepers Creepers is so bad
that I had a sick feeling in my stomach as I left the theater - maybe it was the gross content of the film, but I felt the need
to take a shower after being exposed to the garbage in this film.
This movie is bad enough that it doesn't deserve an adequate review, so I'll ony touch on a few points. Trish (Gina Philips) and
Dary (Justin Long) are driving home from college when they see a strange figure throwing what looks to be people down a
sewer pipe. They (of course) go back to see what is going on, and find their worst horrors realized, while this demonized
creature stalks them the rest of the film. The film tries to one-up itself in the gross category from one scene to the next, and
the final scenes are so disturbing that I would strongly advise anyone to avoid this film if at all possible (although I realize
horror film buffs will appreciate its bleak outlook).
Maybe it's not that big of a surprise, considering who directed the film, Victor Salva. Salva was convicted of child molestation
and illegal pornography in 1989, and why MGM would choose him to helm this project is questionable at best; especially since Salva's
previous effort, Powder, was one of the worst films of the 1990s. His twisted imagination is on
display here as well, since he also wrote the screenplay. What the point of his film is here I'm not sure, but I do know that
I have no desire to investigate it.
I find it difficult to comprehend that any movie reviewer could possibly recommend this film to anyone. There is simply no
reason for one to subject him/herself to the pointless exercise in terror that is Jeepers Creepers. If there was some moral
message to glean from it, then maybe it would justify its existence, but as it is, it's just disgusting.
It's one of the worst films of the year, or any other year for that matter.
